Crater Lake High School, Central Point OR This innovative expansion of Crater High School upgraded the learning and teaching environment with a fresh look and enhanced functionality. The project includes a new 10,300 square foot Science Building featuring six science and two general classrooms with adjoining teacher workrooms/ equipment storage rooms. Each science classroom is equipped with custom-fabricated lab tables, ample storage cabinets, and a suspended uni-strut frame for attaching student experiments and safety equipment. The project also included the complete renovation of the Student Union. The main room of this 13,300 square foot multi-purpose building serves the high school as its cafeteria, dance hall, and assembly area. The new remodel also incorporates an ala Carte kitchen, dry storage area, scullery, manager’s office, restrooms, and Teacher’s Conference Area. The extensive remodel includes lively colors, an intimate outdoor plaza, and a dramatic 21-foot tall, 69-foot long window curtain wall. The final component of the project is a 17,450 square foot Auditorium with seating for 500. This new building features a fly loft, green room, dressing rooms, extensive cat walk systems, and a spacious control room. Both the Central Point community and the high school can now present large-scale productions in style. The generous lobby area has a concession area and is designed to also serve as an art gallery and reception area. Like many of our larger educational projects, the renovation and expansion of Crater High School was truly a collaborative effort. Ray Kistler was the Architect of Record and Peter Schmitz served as Project Architect. The design team also included Jim Roemer and Matt Small. Site Design: Kinesis, Inc. | Photo: Brian Prechtel |
