Due to rapid expansion and annexation at its western boundary, the City of Grants Pass determined that an additional public safety station was required to accommodate rapid growth in this area. Ogden Roemer Wilkerson Architecture conducted programming interviews with user groups and assisted in site analysis and selection. The Redwood Public Safety Building is designed to blend into the context of its residential surroundings. The site design places the building next to an elementary school also designed by ORW, creating a “civic node” in this predominantly residential neighborhood.

The building’s design minimizes its massing while responding appropriately to the critical functional requirements of the public safety department. Varied roof slopes and articulated forms recall stylistic elements of the surrounding homes and agricultural buildings. This building is designed to instill civic pride and bring a sense of security to the neighborhood it serves, all while striving to be a good neighbor.
