McLoughlin Middle School, Medford OR

Medford School District 549C hired Ogden Roemer Wilkerson to remodel two middle schools: McLoughlin and Hedrick. Built in the 1920s, McLoughlin Middle School was originally designed with long, double-loaded classroom corridors. The project goal was to extend the overall life span of the building, accommodate a larger student population, and rearrange the classrooms to enhance team teaching. The design features a state-of-the-art Media Center with the latest computer and communication technologies, a renovated cafeteria that allows for a larger menu and increased student traffic, and a new 45,000-square-foot building to house technology, art, and music classrooms. An expansive 8,000-square-foot gymnasium was added, as well as complete upgrades of the electrical, mechanical, and heating systems.

"I am most impressed with the listening skills of the Architects. They have a way of listening to all kinds of information from all kinds of different people... then translate this into concrete plans and meet the needs of a specific program."
