Southern Oregon has been
identified as one of the best places in the America for
retiring seniors. Ashland, in particular, has become a
particular favorite for retirees relocating to the area
given its natural setting, cultural amenities, and
superb quality-of-life.
ORW was approached to help create master plan for a new
community for lifelong living. Housing options within
range from attached and detached single-family homes to
condominiums, assisted living, and memory care. Various
levels of care acuity, all in a single community
including integrated commercial space for convenient
access to life’s necessities.
Located in rolling foothills near the outskirts of
Ashland, the various components which make up the
community have been knit into the topography. Each of
the residential elements were designed with connecting
interior and elevated walkways providing convenient
stairless access from the various living options to the
Clubhouse and Wellness Center. Barrier-free and
adaptable design in all of the living units allows for
residents to remain in their homes and community as
their situations and needs change.
The exterior design of the various projects reflects the
Craftsman style so popular in the area and indicative of
the historic homes of the Ashland and the surrounding
towns. Shingle and siding treatments enliven the
exterior and feature wood and stone accents around each
of the buildings. Entries are marked by timber framed
canopies giving each point of access a unique landmark.
