This 15,000 square foot, four-story addition to the Siskiyou Center is located on the campus of Southern Oregon University in Ashland. Working in close collaboration with user groups, SOU administrators, and program directors, Ogden Roemer Wilkerson designed the expansion to accommodate the housing, dining, and programmatic needs of the many senior adult learners who attend Elderhostel activities in Ashland. Ogden Roemer Wilkerson stayed within the project’s strict budget resulting in no charges for additional services.

The addition includes 30 new deluxe residential suites with private baths and kitchenettes. New hall lounge areas tie together all of the rooms, fostering impromptu gatherings and after-class socializing. The lounges feature floor-to-ceiling windows allowing panoramic views of the surrounding Cascade Mountains. Exposed structural steel beams and ground-face block provide a simple and elegant visage to the expansion, integrating it with the original 1950’s dormitory.
