A major strategic goal in
the Southern Oregon University Master Plan adopted in
the year 2000 is to provide affordable housing for
students. The Madrone Street Apartments project is
designed to serve the affordable housing needs of upper
class students in the 21st Century.
Ogden Roemer Wilkerson Architecture was hired by SOU to
provide a Master Plan and Conceptual Design for the
Madrone Street Apartments. The goals of the Master Plan
included a Space Needs Program; a unique conceptual
apartment building design; a long range Master Plan; and
a final report incorporating research, findings,
program, conceptual building designs, Master Site Plan
and estimated costs to assist SOU in the planning,
funding and implementation of Phases I & II.
Containing 24 four-bedroom apartments that are fully ADA
accessible and designed to promote community at
different scales. Between each four apartments are group
gathering and multi-purpose areas with glass view walls
to enjoy the panoramic mountain views. Sunny outdoor
plazas between the buildings create the common gathering
spot all residents of the Madrone Street Affordable
Student Housing community may enjoy.
