The Siskiyou Community Health Center provides a new, permanent home for an organization which has operated in cobbled-together temporary facilities on the fringes of Cave Junction, Oregon for more than 30 years. The clinic also teamed with another local provider to bring radiology and laboratory services to this growing and largely underserved rural population.

Set in a dense thicket of old-growth forest just off of the main highway, the building was conceived as a camp shelter set in the trees. The clinic was located on the site to disturb as few of the large trees as possible. The gently sloping roof and generous overhangs protect the building from abundant rain and bright summer sun. These features help to marry building and landscape and create a protected zone between the building edge and the native plantings, allowing a great deal building facade to be glazed admitting a bounty of natural lighting and ventilation. Emphasis was placed on the use of natural, low-maintenance materials, further complementing the surroundings and eliminating the need for expensive and ongoing maintenance.
